About us

Life in UK Practice Test is an independent study site that helps people prepare for the Life in the UK Test with free, original practice questions.

Independent site. We are not the Home Office or the official test provider. Book your real test only on GOV.UK, the official booking service.

What we do

We publish free mock tests in the same format as the real test (24 questions, 45 minutes, 75% pass mark), practice by chapter, and plain-English guides to booking, ID rules and exemptions. Everything on the site works without an account.

Who we are not

We are not the Home Office, UK Visas and Immigration, or the official test provider, and we are not connected to or endorsed by any of them. We do not book tests, and we never ask for your ID or payment details. The only official place to book the Life in the UK Test is the GOV.UK booking service. The official handbook and official study materials are sold through the official Life in the UK Test shop linked from GOV.UK.

How we write our questions

All 359 questions in our bank are written by us. They cover the topics in the official handbook, Life in the United Kingdom: A Guide for New Residents, but they are not copied from the handbook, from the real test or from any other website. We keep a source note for every question, pointing to a GOV.UK page or to the general public record, so each fact can be checked.

Because our questions are not the real ones, use them to test your understanding of the handbook rather than as a list of answers to memorise.

How we keep our guides accurate

Facts about fees, booking, ID, refunds and exemptions on this site are taken only from GOV.UK pages. We last checked them in October 2026. Rules change, so always confirm the current position on GOV.UK before you book or apply.

Not legal advice

Our guides explain the published rules about the test. They are not immigration advice. If you need advice about your own application, speak to a regulated immigration adviser or solicitor.

Found a mistake?

If you think a question or a guide is wrong, we want to know. Accuracy matters more to us than anything else on the site.

What is in our question bank

Our 359 questions are grouped by the five chapters of the official handbook. The history chapter has the most questions, because it is the longest chapter and has the most names and dates to learn.

ChapterQuestions
Values and principles26
What is the UK50
A long and illustrious history122
A modern, thriving society71
The UK government, the law and your role90

Each question has one correct answer, three wrong answers (or two options for true-or-false statements) and a short explanation. The order of the answers is shuffled, so you cannot learn the position of the right answer instead of the fact.

How the mock tests are built

A mock test takes 24 questions from the bank, spread across all five chapters in proportion to the size of each chapter, with no repeats. Practice tests 1 to 15 always use the same questions, so you can measure your progress. The random mock test builds a new set every time. Tests are marked against 18 out of 24 (75%), the pass mark GOV.UK gives for the real test.

Spotting unofficial booking sites

Some websites look official and charge more than the £50 fee to "book for you". You do not need them. Before you pay anyone, check that the address is gov.uk/life-in-the-uk-test. The official helpline listed on GOV.UK is support@lituk.psionline.com or 0800 015 4245. We will never offer to book a test for you or ask for your ID.
