Full mock tests (24 questions, 45 minutes)
Each practice test below always contains the same 24 questions, so you can retake it later and see how much you have improved. The questions are spread across all five chapters of the handbook, in proportion to the size of each chapter. When you finish, the test is marked against the real pass mark of 18 out of 24 (75%) and you see an explanation for every question.
Random mock test A new set of 24 questions every time.
Practice by chapter
Topic practice gives you up to 20 questions from one chapter, with instant feedback after each answer. It is the best way to fix a weak chapter.
- Values and principles: 26 questions
- What is the UK: 50 questions
- A long and illustrious history: 122 questions
- A modern, thriving society: 71 questions
- The UK government, the law and your role: 90 questions
How the tests mirror the real thing
GOV.UK says the real Life in the UK Test gives you 45 minutes to answer 24 questions, and you must score 75% or more to pass. Our mock tests use the same numbers. The timer counts down from 45 minutes and the test is marked automatically if time runs out. You can move back and forth between questions using the numbered buttons, and change an answer at any point before you finish.
After marking, the results screen shows:
- your score out of 24 and your percentage
- whether that would be a pass (18 or more)
- every question, your answer, the correct answer and a short explanation
Your score and any questions you got wrong are saved in your browser. Next time you visit, the practice page shows your recent results and lets you practise only your mistakes. Nothing is sent to us, and you can clear your saved progress at any time.
Our questions are original
We write every question ourselves. They are not copied from the official handbook, from the real test or from any other website. Each question has a source note so the facts can be checked against GOV.UK or the public record. The real test is based only on the official handbook, Life in the United Kingdom: A Guide for New Residents, so read the handbook and use these tests to check what you have learned, rather than memorising our answers.

How to get the most from practice tests
- Read the handbook first. Then take practice test 1 to find your starting point.
- Review every wrong answer. The explanation tells you the fact you missed. Look it up in the handbook too.
- Practise your mistakes. Repeating only the questions you got wrong is the quickest way to raise your score.
- Mix tests and topics. Use full tests to measure yourself and topic practice to fix weak chapters.
- Aim above the pass mark. Scoring 18 in practice is a borderline pass. Aim for 21 or more consistently before you book.
